Supervision of clinical practice indicators: evidence-based practice in the context of the surgical patient

Introduction: Clinical supervision and evidence-based practice (EBP) must be understood as complementary inseparable practices considering the positive results they produce in health quality. Objectives: To assess nurses’ predisposition to incorporate EBP care identify barriers implementation of their workplaces. Material Methods: An exploratory-descriptive study, carried out an outpatient surgery unit a University Hospital Porto, Portugal, was conducted. Data were collected using Effectiveness Evidence-Based Practice Questionnaire (QECPBE-20) applied non-probabilistic intentional sample forty-nine nurses. Results: Nurses favour according dimension “Attitudes” (M=5.36), which had highest average score, followed by “Knowledge, Skills Competences” (M=5.08) and, finally, “Practices” (M=4.89). Participants with training clinical showed higher values Knowledge, Competencies than those without supervision. Moreover, nurses specialization scored Attitudes. The identified are summarized four categories: organizational, professional, leadership evidence. Conclusions: revealed knowledge attitude towards EBP. However, low rate utilization daily practice. Lack time, lack effort managers difficulty accessing scientific evidence some challenges identified.
